EXCLUSIVE: Working Title has set Dave Andron to adapt Stone Rider, the David Hofmeyr dystopian science fiction novel about a young man who wants a chance to escape Blackwater, the dust-bowl desert town he grew up in and lead a good life with the beautiful Sadie Blood. Alongside Sadie and the dangerous outsider Kane, Adam will ride the Blackwater Trail in a brutal race where only the strongest survive and the prize is a ticket to Sky-Base and a life of luxury.
The book has been described as a cross between Elmore Leonard and Mad Max, and that makes sense to hire Andron. He has been executive producer of the FX hit series Justified, which was spawned from Leonard’s fiction and is winding down its six-season run as it heads for that inevitable showdown between Tim Olyphant’s Raylon Givens and Walton Goggins’ Boyd Crowder characters. Andron has written on the series since its inception.
He also sold the spec sci-fi drama pilot The Runner to Disney as a feature film with Marc Forster directing and Imagine Entertainment producing. Andron was also the creator and exec producer of the Knight Rider reboot for NBC and he was a consulting producer on TNT’s Cocaine Cowboys for Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay.
Black Swan’s David Thwaites is producing with Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, and Liza Chasen is overseeing the project with Johanna Byer and Amelia Granger. Andron is repped by CAA, Madhouse and attorney Bruce Gellman.
