“We offer humanity’s greatest minds more time to fill their potential.” Nice pitch. But later it’s revealed that “immortality has some side effects.” Here’s the first full trailer for director Tarsem Singh’s sci-fi thriller Self/Less, which sees a megarich and self-involved architect (Ben Kingsley) who’s dying of cancer undergo a procedure that puts him in the body of a healthy younger man (Ryan Reynolds). Asked how he’s doing, the new/old guy remarks about “that new body smell.” But then there are those tricky complications, and our hero starts to chip away at the mystery of just how the folks behind the operation came upon that healthy body. Much difficulty ensues.

Natalie Martinez, Matthew Goode, Victor Garber, Derek Luke and Michelle Dockery co-star in the Focus Features pic from scriptwriter brothers Alex & David Pastor. It’s produced by Ram Bergman, James D. Stern and Peter Schlessel. Self/Less has been through a string of release date changes; originally set to hit theaters last September, it was moved to February, then to April. Now it’s set to take up residence in your local megaplex on July 31, where it will counterprogram Mission: Impossible 5. Take a look and tell us what you think.
