EXCLUSIVE: Jonathan Decker has exited IM Global, where he was president, to join Nicolas Chartier’s Voltage Pictures as president and COO. Deckter will take over running all day-to-day business operations at Voltage. Chartier will remain as CEO and oversee all production-related activities along with Zev Foreman and Craig Flores.
Deckter, who had been at IM Global for almost five years, had been a key part of Stuart Ford’s company’s emergence as a genuine player in the independent film business. He reps a big get for Chartier, who harbors big ambitions of his own for Voltage. Discussions are already underway with new sources of financing to grow Voltage’s film and TV productions, announce new hires by the summer and complete several international mergers and acquisitions with strategic partners.
“Over the past 10 years we have built Voltage from a small two-person venture into what it is today,” said Chartier. “By adding Jonathan and his vast expertise to our already strong team, we are excited to continue strengthening and expanding Voltage as a leader in independent film. I am looking forward to focusing on producing films, putting together financing for our next slates, and developing new film business ventures.”
Previous Voltage titles include Jean-Marc Vallee’s Dallas Buyer’s Club and Kathryn Bigelow’s Best Picture-winning The Hurt Locker. The company recently completed Fathers And Daughters, directed by Gabriele Muccino, starring Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Aaron Paul; and Good Kill, directed by Andrew Niccol, and starring Ethan Hawke. Its upcoming releases include The Secret Scripture, directed by Jim Sheridan, with Rooney Mara, and Knock Knock, directed by Eli Roth, with Keanu Reeves.
“I’m incredibly excited to partner with Nicolas and work with Zev, Craig, my old colleague Elisabeth [Costa de Beauregard], and the great team at Voltage to help bring the company to the next level,” said Deckter. “We are going to do our best to fulfill what the marketplace demands: premium content and smart, commercial, edgy films. Additionally, Nicolas has developed exciting distribution alliances in Scandinavia and Spain, so together we intend to aggressively find new opportunities.”
