Six Feet Under alum Frances Conroy and Nyasha Hatendi (The Ghost) are set as series regulars in Hulu’s single-camera comedy series Casual, executive produced by Jason Reitman, who will direct the opening episode. Written by up-and-coming scribe Zander Lehmann, Casual follows the story of a dysfunctional family with a bachelor brother, Alex Cole (Tommy Dewey), and his newly divorced sister, therapist Valerie Cole (Michaela Watkins). Together, they coach each other through the crazy world of dating (online and off), while living under one roof again and raising Valerie’s teenage daughter Laura (Lynne Barr), who has taken on the role of adult in the house. Also cast in the project is Julie Berman as Leia.
Conroy, repped by Paradigm and Paul Martino, will play Dawn, Alex and Valerie’s mother, an austere and emotionally calculating woman who can manipulate her children into feeling any way she wants. Hatendi will play Leon, a newly single man looking for true love who is Valerie’s first one-night stand and subsequently becomes close friends with Alex. He is repped by Generate in the U.S. and Dalzell and Beresford in the UK. Berman is repped by Greene and Associates and Elevate Entertainment.
