The main suspect in an infamous North Carolina missing persons case has been arrested and charged in the deaths of former Food Network Star contestant Cristy Schoen Codd and her husband Joseph “J.T.” Codd, a veteran movie grip.
Robert Jason Owens, a handyman with a long criminal record and a neighbor of the Codd’s, is accused of killing them and their unborn child. Two bodies found in a burning cabin not far from the Codd home in Leicester, NC, could be those of the missing couple, although no positive identification has been made.
In 2012, Cristy Codd was a competitor on Season 8 of the popular Food Network show that crowns the channel’s next show-topping chef. The competition series’ website noted that she “grew up mostly in the South and often cooked Cajun cuisine with her dad. During college, she studied abroad in Germany and discovered a love for European cooking.” In this Season 8 bio video, she says she lived in Marina del Rey, CA and catered on movie sets:
According to IMDb, Joseph Codd’s IMDb credits include HBO’s Carnivale.
Owens is also the prime suspect in the disappearance of then-18-year-old Zebb Quinn, a co-worker of his who went missing in 2000. In 2012, Quinn’s case was featured on Investigation Discovery’s Disappeared.
