Bella Thorne has joined the cast of Fox’s sequel Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Walt Becker is directing the fourth film in the animated/live-action franchise, which is set for release December 23. In the film, a series of misunderstandings has led chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore to believe that Dave is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York and dump them. Thorne will play Ashley. Thorne, who just booked a starring role in the ABC Family drama project Famous In Love, starred on the Disney Channel series Shake It Up! Other recent credits include The DUFF, Big Love and My Own Worst Enemy. Repped by WME, and LBI Entertainment, she next appears in the features Home Invasion, Big Sky and Amityville: The Awakening.
Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Walking Dead), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy, Into The Storm) and Tom Holland (The Impossible, BBC’s Wolf Hall), have signed on to Pilgrimage, an action thriller from director Brendan Muldowney. Set in 13th century Ireland, the film follows a small group of monks as they undertake a treacherous pilgrimage to escort their monastery’s holiest relic to Rome. As the journey becomes increasingly fraught with danger, the faith that binds the men together threatens to be the very same thing that will tear them apart. Production is set to begin in April in Ireland and later Belgium. XYZ Films is executive producers and selling worldwide rights to the film and co-repping U.S. rights with WME. Bernthal, repped by WME and Burstein Company, co-stars in the Sundance hit Me And Earl And The Dying Girl. Armitage, repped by WME, Management 360 and United Agents in the UK, next will be seen on NBC’s Hannibal. Repped by WME and by Curtis Brown Group in the UK, Holland next appears in Ron Howard’s In The Heart Of The Sea.
108 Media has picked up North American rights to Below Dreams, which bowed at Tribeca last year. The debut feature from writer-direct0r Garrett Bradley follows three young adults (Elliott Ehlers, Jamain Johnson, Leann Miller) as they navigate the streets of New Orleans in pursuit of employment, stardom and unconditional love. 108 Media will open the film April 10 in Los Angeles, a week later in New York and April 21 on VOD. The deal was negotiated by RJ Millard of Obscured Pictures on behalf of the filmmaker and Abhi Rastogi and Nick Burton of 108 Media, which also is handling international sales on the film.
