Empire co-executive producer Sanaa Hamri is set to direct a drama pilot for the network, Studio City, from creator Krista Vernoff, Warner Bros TV and John Wells Prods. Set in present-day Studio City, CA, Fox’s Studio City is a family dramedy inspired by Vernoff’s real-life experience growing up as the daughter of a drug dealer to the stars. Hamri’s series directing credits also include Shameless, Rectify, Hemlock Grove and Elementary. On the feature side, the Morocco-born directed The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants 2.
British TV comedy director Ben Taylor will helm Chev & Bev, ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo as baby boomers who are fun, relevant and living a selfish retirement when their world is turned upside down and they suddenly are left to raise their grandchildren. Brad Copeland wrote the project, based on an original idea by Aaron Kaplan; the two executive produce. This marks the second gig in the U.S. for Taylor, who also directed Kaplan’s 2013 ABC pilot Bad Management. In the U.K., he has directed such series as Cuckoo, Spy and 2015 additions Catastrophe and Cockroaches.
