Rob Reiner and Royal Pains co-creator/executive producer Andrew Lenchewski have acquired rights to Congressman Steve Israel’s novel, political satire The Global War On Morris, to develop as a comedy series for cable.
Inspired by Israel’s experiences serving on the House Armed Services Committee, The Global War On Morris is about a meek pharmaceutical salesman from Long Island, who is mistakenly targeted as America’s next major terrorist. Lenchewski and Reiner executive produce alongside Reiner’s producing partner Alan Greisman. Search is underway for a writer to write the adaptation.
The project stems from the long-time friendship between Israel and Lenchewski. Israel is a 13-year U.S. Representative for New York’s 3rd congressional district, which includes Lenchewski’s hometown and the area where his long-running USA series, Royal Pains, is shot. Israel’s well-received The Global War On Morris was published December 30, 2014 by Simon & Schuster.
The Global War On Morris extends CAA-repped Reiner and Lenchewski’s relationship. The two also are collaborating on an untitled thriller drama project, in development at USA, which follows a Yale student recruited by the CIA to become a mole in the secret Skull and Bones society.
Israel is repped by APA and Kuhn Projects.
