Marv Albert and “Sugar” Ray Leonard will lace up the gloves to serve as play-by-play announcer and analyst, respectively for NBC’s Premier Boxing Champions, the network said today. Al Michaels will host the series, first announced last month, that will see boxing return to the network for the first time since 1985, when it showed Larry Holmes-Carl “The Truth Williams”.

The sport has since migrated to cable sports nets and of course pay-per-view (talks are on for what could be the most lucrative PPV fight ever between longtime rivals Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao; it’s looking like they’re talking May for that one).

The PBC On NBC kicks off Saturday, March 7 at 8:30 ET. More broadcasters will be announced soon as the plan is to air 20 live events and 50 hours of coverage on NBC and NBC Sports Network.

Albert also is lead NBA play-by-play man and NCAA basketball announcer at Turner Sports.
