After lengthy negotiations, Paula Patton (Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol) has signed on for the lead in ABC drama pilot Runner, marking the first major series commitment for the feature actress.

Written by Michael Cooney based on the Turkish series Son and directed by Michael Offer, the project, from 20th TV and ABC Studios, is to guns what Traffic was to drugs and delves into the traditionally masculine world of arms dealing through the lens of a woman. It centers on Lauren Marks (Patton), a wife and mother who had believed her husband had died in a plane crash, only to discover him alive, well and traveling with a mysterious woman who uses Lauren’s stolen identity. Thrown into a world of secrets and crime, Lauren finds herself running into Mexican cartels and people from her past she had hoped to forget. Cooney executive produces with Peter Horton, Ian Sander, Kim Moses and Jon Cowan, who serves as showrunner.

Patton’s next feature, the Universal/Legendary live action adaptation Warcraft, will be out in 2016. She is repped by More Medavoy (Brian Medavoy, Erwin More) and CAA.
