Jason Winer has signed on to direct and executive produce two single-camera pilots this season, CBS’ Life In Pieces, which already has cast Colin Hanks as a lead, and NBC’s Strange Calls. Both pilots are produced by 20th TV, where Winer and his Small Dog Picture Co. are under an overall deal, and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Written on spec by Justin Adler, Life In Pieces is about one family as told through the separate stories of its different family members, one of them played by Hanks.

Strange Calls, written by Blake McCormick based on an Australian format, centers on an affable but down on his luck young police officer. He is transferred to a rural town where — with the help of a peculiar, elderly night watchman — he starts to realize the town has a bizarre supernatural underbelly.

Winer, repped by ICM Partners and Mosaic, has directed 20 episodes of Modern Family, including the pilot.
