EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Universal Pictures acquired Mother, an action comedy pitch that will be developed as a star vehicle for Halle Berry. Berry and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas will produce through their 606 Films Production banner. Pablo Fenjves will write the screenplay.

It is the latest deal since Berry and Goldsmith-Thomas joined forces to start 606 Films. They recently wrapped production on Kidnap, a thriller that Berry starred in and produced with Goldsmith-Thomas and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Erik Howsam, Gold Star Films’ Joey Tufaro, and Gregory Chou of Rumble Entertainment. 606 Films is currently in production on the 2nd season of the CBS summer event series Extant, in which Berry also stars‎

Fenjves is currently writing an untitled feature for Treehouse Pictures; he wrote the one-hour drama pilot Tabloid! for Lakeshore Entertainment. He also ghostwrites books and his latest, The Art Of The Pimp: A Love Story, about Bunny Ranch owner Dennis Hof, is being published by Regan Arts on March 17. His last screen credit was the Summit release Man On A Ledge.‎ Berry is represented by CAA and Fenjves by UTA.
