Fox Searchlight’s Birdman won the live-action motion picture award and Disney’s Big Hero 6 the animation award at the 51st annual CAS Awards ceremony tonight at the Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles. The Cinema Audio Society gala also honored Boyhood writer-director Richard Linklater with its Filmmaker Award, and he trekked over to the Biltmore from the Hyatt where he was a nominee for the WGA Awards (he didn’t win).

Image (10) sherlock-his-last-vow__140531212749-275x183.jpg for post 738599The TV categories spread the wealth, with HBO’s Game Of Thrones winning the TV Series One-Hour, ABC’s Modern Family the TV Series Half-Hour and PBS’ Sherlock: His Last Vow the TV Movie or Miniseries Award.

Production sound mixer David Macmillan, a three-time Oscar winner for Apollo 13, Speed and The Right Stuff, was honored with the society’s Career Achievement Award.

The sound community is back in action tomorrow night at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards.
