It’s one of the closest, nail-biting Oscar seasons ever and it is about to get some clarity. No one really knows which way the winds blow in this race, but this morning nominations will finally be announced. The Best Actor category alone has about 30 viable candidates, but it has got to come down to five nominees just like every other category with the exception of Best Picture, which could hit 10 for the first time since rules were changed to allow for up that many.
First up this morning at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater will be last year’s Best Director winner Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) and Star Wars director JJ Abrams to announce the first half of the 24 categories — the first time the Academy has ever announced all the categories live. Following that will be Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs and actor Chris Pine to do the rest of the honors so stay tuned. Here we go.
