Twilight producer Marty Bowen shifts to real life youngsters in the feature documentary The Roughnecks, the chronicle of an emotional season in the life of a Texas pee-wee football team that The Orchard has scooped up for a 2015 digital release. Pic is co-directed and co-produced by Richard Cameron White (The Sleeping Bear) and Bowen, who premiered the film at the Lone Star Film Fest last year.

Bowen’s produced some of the biggest teen franchises in recent history, including Twilight, The Fault In Our Stars, and The Maze Runner, but his connection with the Ridglea Roughnecks is personal – he played for the team as a tot. “We are incredibly excited to be working with The Orchard on The Roughnecks,” said Bowen. “It was a labor of love for us – especially me since I played for them when I was young – and The Orchard’s innovative, passionate approach to distribution is the perfect fit in getting our movie out to a mass audience.”

The deal was negotiated by Danielle DiGiacomo of The Orchard and UTA on behalf of the filmmakers.
