Sky Europe, flexing its multi-territory muscle since forming late last year, is to launch Sky Atlantic’s original drama, Fortitude, simultaneously to 20M customers in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy. The release plan beginning January 29 is a first for a Sky original program. It will debut the same day in the U.S. via co-producer Pivot TV, part of Participant Media. The 12-episode drama stars Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston and Sofie Gråbøl. Set in a tight-knit Arctic community, things begin to unravel when a mysterious death threatens the town. (See trailer below)

Created and written by Simon Donald (Low Winter Sun), Fortitude will also launch in Canada, Australia, France, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Belgium, Poland, New Zealand, Israel and Greece over the coming weeks.

Sky has made an ambitious commitment to original drama over the past few years with several set for air in 2015. They include crime series The Last Panthers with Samantha Morton, Tahar Rahim and John Hurt; Critical, a medical drama from Line Of Duty writer Jed Mercurio; Enfield Haunting starring Timothy Spall, Matthew MacFadyen and Juliet Stevenson; and Raymond Briggs’ Fungus The Bogeyman.
