Sherie Rene Scott, the actress and singer who created the role of a struggling young wife in Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years (soon to be released as a feature film by Richard LaGravanese), is re-teaming with writer Dick Scanlan on Whorl Inside A Loop, set to premiere in August at off-Broadway’s Second Stage theater.
The pair previously collaborated on Everyday Rapture, which began at Second Stage and moved to Broadway, earning Tony nominations for Scott and its book. They’re also reunited with that show’s director, Michael Mayer (Hedwig And The Angry Inch, Spring Awakening), who will stage the piece.
Scott will play an actress hired to work with six inmates at a maximum security prison, helping them to “tell their stories,” according to the announcement from artistic director Carole Rothman. The show, with additional material by Milton Jones, Andre Kelley, Marvin Lewis, Felix Machado, Richard Norat & Jeffrey Rivera, is slated to begin performances on August 4.
