Writer-director-producer Rick Bieber and financier Ken Clark have partnered to form Minds I Cinema, an indie film production company that has already set up its first project: demonic love story The Other, which Bieber wrote and will direct. Dominic Sherwood, Jill Hennessy, Drea de Matteo, Charlbi Dean and Sinclaire Schaefer have been set to star, and shooting begins this month in LA.
Highland Film Group has come aboard to handle international sales, with Gersh repping the domestic sale.
The project is the first in Minds I’s plan to fund and produce two films a year, and the company has several developed and completed screenplays with more projects to be announced.
“It’s our hope that the new company will produce very commercial films with evocative story lines and strong and well developed characters, regardless of genre,” Bieber said. “We’re anxious to create an appealing new home for talented emerging and established filmmakers and actors alike.”
Added Clark: “The team at Minds I Cinema have a broad background across both entertainment and finance. We are confident that this is a combination guaranteed to produce creative product, which also secures responsible financial investments and return for our partners.”
Bieber’s executive producer credits include the 1990s hits Flatliners, Made In America and Radio Flyer, recently wrote, directed and produced inspirational sports pic The 5th Quarter starring Aidan Quinn, Andie McDowell and Ryan Merriman, and Hank Garland biopic Crazy starring Waylon Payne and Ali Larter.
Clark founded and served as chairman of indie First Guarantee Mortgage Company and wrote the books The Story Behind The Mortgage And Housing Meltdown: The Legacy Of Greed and the novel Deadly Instinct.
