Magic City alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to co-star opposite Halle Berry on the CBS summer drama series Extant. Morgan is expected to play the male lead on the sci-fi series’ second season. His character, JD Richter, is a roguish womanizer and a cop of the future, a free-wheeling, hard-drinking and fearless, bordering on reckless mercenary/bounty hunter, mostly because he’s got nothing to lose. He is the everyman who thought he had seen everything until Molly Woods (Halle Berry) enters his life.
In Season 2, female astronaut Molly Woods discovers she has unwittingly put the human race on a path to destruction, and that she and a mysterious stranger may be the only hope for survival. As part of the series’ evolving storyline, which will now focus on Molly’s efforts to track down her alien son who is threatening the human race, the series is revamping its supporting cast. Besides Berry, coming back as regulars are co-stars Pierce Gagnon, who plays Molly’s android son, and Grace Gummer, who plays an assistant on the Humanichs Project. Season 1 series regulars Goran Visnjic, who played Berry’s robotics engineer husband, and Camryn Manheim, who played her friend and co-worker, may return for a couple of episodes, while Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill are not coming back.
Morgan’s television credits also include Grey’s Anatomy and the upcoming miniseries Texas Rising. In features, he will next be seen in Bus 657 alongside Robert DeNiro.
