They’re best known as actors, but with The Overnight, stars Jason Schwartzman and Adam Scott are working behind the camera, too. The film, which premiered at Sundance this weekend and set off a bidding war for acquisition Sunday night, is being produced by Naomi Scott, Adam’s wife. Mark Duplass is an executive producer.
The film was written and directed by Patrick Brice and the small cast also stars Taylor Schilling (Orange Is The New Black), Judith Godreche, Max Moritt and R.J. Hermes. A family moves to Los Angeles and meets another, somewhat mysterious trio at a playground. The families meet for a subsequent playdate and the rest of the evening gets more interesting.
In the video above, Adam Scott and Schwartzman sat down with me at our Sundance studio. They talked about coming to the festival as producers, working with “Sundance maestros” Jay and Mark Duplass, and the opportunities that Amazon has provided for producers of indie and other niche programming, such as the Schwartzman-produced Mozart In The Jungle, which I reviewed quite favorably last month.
