We’re still in the midst of pilot season 2015, but Warner Bros. TV and Ellen DeGeneres’ studio-based A Very Good Production are already looking ahead to the 2015-16 development cycle with a half-hour comedy project starring Idina Menzel. Written by Randi Barnes (Legends Of Oz: Dorothy’s Return), Happy Time is described as a comedy about a woman (Menzel) in the public eye who’s ready to stop pretending she’s so damned happy all the time. Barnes is executive producing with A Very Good Prods.’ DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman. The project, currently eyed as single-camera, is expected to be taken out in the summer.
Tony winner Menzel is coming off the blockbuster success of the Oscar-winning Disney animated movie Frozen and the Oscar-winning song Menzel performed in it, Let It Go. On TV, Menzel, repped by ICM Partners and One Entertainment, recently recurred on Fox’s Glee. On Sunday, she will perform the national anthem at the Super Bowl. A Very Good Production also is with ICM Partners; Barnes with Paradigm and Apostle’s George Heller.
