Exactly a year after Showtime announced a series pickup of comedy pilot Happyish at TCA last January, the network did it again for the project’s new pilot. Happyish had to be redone after the death of original star Philip Seymour Hoffman. The dark comedy, picked up for 10 episodes, will debut April 26. It will be sandwiched between the season premieres of Nurse Jackie‘s seventh and final season and Penny Dreadful‘s second.
Created by Shalom Auslander, Happyish is described as a comedic, soul-searching examination of our pursuit of happiness. It stars Steve Coogan, Bradley Whitford and Kathryn Hahn who also was in the original pilot.
Additionally, on the heels of Shameless’ fifth-season premiere last night, the dramedy has been renewed for a sixth season. Shameless, which received a 12-episode order, is one of the last series left over from Showtime’s previous regime. It has been getting stronger with time and, following the show’s move from drama to comedy awards categories, it has been raking in nominations for star William H. Macy.
