In anticipation of the upcoming Season 5 premiere of Game Of Thrones on April 12, HBO today threw out not only a trailer but also some visual breadcrumbs to keep fans of the blockbuster series guessing about what’s next. Click on the photo to launch our gallery.
The photos don’t really reveal what’s in story for Arya Stark and Sansa Stark — both of who were in some very new situations, to put it mildly, at the end of last season — but we know they still have a role to play in the intrigue. All the headliners are in the photos, with Peter Dinklage’s patricidal Tyrion Lannister now on the run across the Narrow Seas and looking to be hiding himself among the lower classes. He might be doing that not only for killing his father Tywin at the end of Season 4 but also because he is still under suspicion by other members of his family for the death of his nephew, the crazed boy King Joffrey.
To that end, there are a number of pics of regulars like Tyrion’s ever-scheming sister Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). After the fracas at The Wall at the end of Season 4, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is alive and seemingly looking for allies in his own quest and advancement, including Iron Throne aspirant Davos Seaworth. And of course there is the dragon-riding Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), who is finding that ruling a city-state is not as easy as she thought and certainly not without sacrifice.
Also included are the new castmembers unveiled at Comic-Con including Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow, whom fans of Martin’s books will know as perhaps the only honest man left in King’s Landing, and Alexander Siddig as Doran Martell, the brother of the now dead Prince Oberyn undoubtedly even more determined in his long-term aim to bring down the House Lannister.
Head spinning yet? Wait until the season begins.
