Two high-profile Fox comedy projects have received pilot orders: Fantasy Life, Rivers Franks Featured Imagestarring Entourage alum Kevin Connolly, and DeTour, from Psych creator Steve Franks and Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. Both come from Fox sibling 20th Century Fox TV and had put pilot commitments.

fantasylifebookThe multi-camera/hybrid Fantasy Life was written by Tim McAuliffe (The Office) based on Fantasy Life: The Outrageous, Uplifting, And Heartbreaking World Of Fantasy Sports From The Guy Who’s Lived It, the memoir by one of U.S.’ top fantasy experts, ESPN’s Matthew Berry. When a hard-working guy lands his ultimate dream job hosting a fantasy football show, he’s forced to navigate office politics while becoming the star he never thought he could be.

In addition to starring, Connolly also is executive producing through his overall deal at 20th TV. Also executive producing are McAuliffe and 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg, Jonathan Berry — who is Matthew Berry’s younger brother — Greg Walter and Troy Zien.

Single-camera DeTour was inspired by Cuomo’s real-life experiences. Written by Franks, it centers on a rock star who made the unexpected choice at age 30 to quit his band and go back to college.

Cuomo attended Harvard University on and off from 1995 to 2006. To complete his bachelor of arts in English, Cuomo took a sabbatical from his successful rock career nine years ago to return to Harvard full time, living in the dorms and eating in the cafeteria. He tried out for the school choir and didn’t get in, he made friends, met his wife and went on to graduate Cum Laude.

Franks executive produces DeTour with Tagline Television’s Chris Henze (Psych) and Willie Mercer. Cuomo and manager Dan Field also serve as executive producers.
