Marvel announced today that Broadchurch star David Tennant has been cast as the villainous Kilgrave on A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Marvel’s second 13-episode series to debut on Netflix in 2015, following Daredevil.

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City. An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.

Tennant played the tenth Doctor Who on the BBC series and also returned for Doctor Who‘s 50th Anniversary special. His other TV credits include the role of Detective Emmett Carver on Gracepoint. His film work includes Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire and How To Train Your Dragon.
