Alcon Entertainment has acquired film rights to Darkmouth, an upcoming series of comedic fantasy-adventure novels written by Irish author Shane Hegarty. HarperCollins Children’s Books will publish the debut novel, Darkmouth #1: The Legends Begin, in the UK, Ireland and Australia at the end of the month and in the U.S. in April.

Alcon EntertainmentThe series tells the story of the last town on Earth where monsters (known as Legends) still invade. Finn, the 12-year-old son of the last remaining Legend Hunter, must follow in his father’s footsteps and prepare for an epic battle to defeat the Legends as their terrifying leader plans a major attack on Earth. Unfortunately, Finn is one of the worst Legend Hunters in history.

Canyon Creek Films’ Simon Brooks and 8:38’s Kira Davis (Prisoners) will produce with Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove. Brooks and Davis brought the project to Alcon.

Hegarty, formerly Arts Editor at The Irish Times, is repped by the Marianne Gunn O’Connor Literary, Film and TV Agency. Jeannette Hill-Yonis and Scott Parish negotiated the deal for Alcon with Gunn O’Connor.
