Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, has been appointed an independent director on eBay’s Board of Directors. The move, announced on eBay’s blog, comes after Hammer in September joined the board of Barry Diller’s e-commerce power IAC, reteaming her with her former boss at USA Network.

Hammer leads one of the television industry’s most profitable and diverse cable portfolios at NBCUCable Entertainment, including 10 cable networks and two studios. She will take the number of eBay independent directors to 10 on the 12-member board. The other two are eBay founder and chairman Pierre Omidyar, the company’s largest shareholder, and company president and CEO John Donahoe.

In September, eBay’s board approved a plan to separate the company’s eBay and PayPal businesses into independent publicly traded companies this year. Decisions on which boards eBay Inc. directors will serve will be determined closer to the time of separation.

“I have tremendous admiration for companies with the kind of pioneering spirit and innovation eBay has demonstrated from day one,” Hammer said. “It’s an especially exciting time to join the board as eBay and PayPal move to become two independent, publicly traded entities. I’m honored to be joining such an outstanding Board of Directors.”
