Oscar winners Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer deliver fine performances in Black Or Whitea riveting drama on race and family that I review in the video above.

The film made a late run at awards consideration in December after it was picked up weeks after its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. That awards bid came up short, but the film nonetheless deserves lots of attention from audiences when it opens wide this week.

Other cast members include Jillian Estell as the granddaughter that Costner’s and Spencer’s characters fight over, Andre Holland as her drug-addicted father and Anthony Mackie as an attorney and the girl’s uncle. Mike Binder wrote and directed the movie, and produced with Costner and Todd Lewis. Relativity Media is distributing the film.
