Fox Searchlight’s Birdman is joining its studio sibling The Grand Budapest Hotel in boosting its theater presence after yesterday’s box office bonanza, when the Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu-directed pic picked up nine nominations including for Best Pictures. In its 14th week, the pic will available in more than 450 theaters today, which an additional expansion to 900 theaters planned for January 23.

Birdman originally opened on October 17 in four theaters and its count grew as high as 800+ a couple of weeks ago in its awards-season push. To date it has made $26.7M domestically and $34.6M worldwide.
