EXCLUSIVE: The Tony Award-winning actress (Caroline, Or Change; nominee for the Denzel Washington-led revival of A Raisin In The Sun) and growing force on TV (The Good Wife) and screen (Dreamgirls, for colored girls…, and maybe disco queen Donna Summer in the upcoming biopic) has optioned TV/Film rights to Daniel José Older’s urban fantasy series Bone Street Rumba. First installment of the literary skein, Half-Resurrection Blues, was published on January 6 by Penguin’s Roc Books imprint and centers on character Carlos Delacruz, an agent in the “New York Council Of The Dead.” He’s a so-called in-betweener, living in a kind of purgatory after his own death, and he encounters others in a similar demi-monde. Second installment, Midnight Taxi Tango, is slated for next January. Publishers Weekly dubbed Older a “rising star of the genre.” He also has Shadowshaper, a YA title, about to come out as well.
Rose optioned the work through her Roaring Virgin Productions company. She’s represented by Innovative, MGMT Entertainment and David Williams management.
