EXCLUSIVE: Lionsgate comedy Dirty Grandpa has added The Mindy Project alum Adam Pally to the family. The summer 2016 comedy about an uptight twentysomething (Zac Efron) on a road trip with his foul-mouthed, sex-obsessed grandfather (Robert De Niro) is currently filming in Atlanta. Actor and comedian Pally will play Efron’s crass and crude thirtysomething cousin in a cast that also includes Aubrey Plaza, Zoey Deutch and Dermot Mulroney.

Dan Mazer (Da Ali G Show) is directing from a screenplay by John Phillips. Producers are Barry Josephson, Bill Block, Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett. Executive producers are Anton Lessine, Sasha Shapiro and John Friedberg. Lionsgate will release the QED and Ninjas Running Wild comedy on August 12, 2016.

Pally’s credits include ABC’s Happy Endings, The To-Do List and Life After Beth with Plaza, and the upcoming indie comedies Night Owls and Bad Summer. He played Dr. Peter Prentice on The Mindy Project but departed after Season 3 and now is in the midst of a two-year overall producing deal with ABC inked last fall.

Pally is repped by CAA, Greg Walter and Josh Lieberman at 3 Arts Entertainment, and Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano.
