NBC News’ Today this morning premiered Today: The Musical, a 14-minute — yes, 14-minute — original production starring the program’s cast and crew. The news division billed it as a tongue-in-cheek look behind the scenes of Studio 1A, where Today anchors and crew members sang and danced to original numbers written by Kathie Lee Gifford.
Among the highlights: Matt Lauer swans around like a diva and drops his trousers (he wears boxers, in case you care), Carson Daly and Willie Geist skip through several scenes while gleefully predicting Matt will be out soon, guest Regis Philbin farts his way through a Today interview after eating spicy meatballs, and stagehand and aspiring actor/singer Sal Cacciato is revealed to have a nice voice.
Oh, and CNN no longer looks so silly for spending the weekend on the latest missing airplane story, though that’s not in the video.
