Another Swedish book trilogy has become a hot Hollywood commodity. In a very competitive bidding war, Tomorrow Studios, Marty Adelstein’s partnership with ITV Studios, has acquired the TV rights to international best-selling book trilogy The Crow Girl, which is yet to be published in the U.S. The novels will be developed as a drama TV series executive produced by Tomorrow Studios’ CEO Adelstein and president Becky Clements as well as producer Michael London (Sideways) through his Groundswell Prods. The project already is attracting top actresses interested in playing the lead.

It centers on three women, the lead, a detective investigating the murders of abused children; a  psychotherapist who specializes in child abuse cases; and a woman she is treating who has suffered childhood trauma. The books, which have sold over one million units worldwide, have been hailed by critics as “the best in the genre” in exploring the darkest corners of the human psyche. The books will be published in the US as one tome in spring 2016. Watch a trailer below.

“I’m ecstatic that Tomorrow Studios was able to acquire the rights to such a literary global phenomenon and even more excited at the caliber of talent already expressing interest in being attached to the television series,” said Adelstein.

In addition to Adelstein, Clements and London, Eriksson and Sundquist also are executive producing, along with Niclas Salomonsson and Federico Ambrosini of The Salomonsson Agency. The deal was brokered by RWSG Literary and attorney Keith Fleer.

Sweden has been a hot destination for literary source material since the blockbuster success of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium book trilogy that was adapted into the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movies on both sides of the pond. Leif G. W. Persson’s Backstrom books, which also came to the U.S. via The Salomonsson Agency and RWSG, were turned into Fox’s upcoming series of the same name starring Rainn Wilson.

Tomorrow Studios has upcoming straight-to-series NBC drama Aquarius starring David Duchovny and written by John McNamara.
