British director Amma Asante (Belle) confirmed today that Pinewood Pictures, the investment arm of Pinewood Studios Group, will be investing in Where Hands Touch. That project is a romantic drama set in 1940s Berlin about the relationship between a mixed-race German girl and an SS officer.
First up for the in-demand filmmaker, however, is Unforgettable for Warner Bros, about a woman who sets out to make the life of her ex-husband’s new wife hell. The double female lead pic is currently out to cast its two principals. Project is being produced by Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan.
Pinewood previously invested in Asante’s Belle, which Fox released to much success in the UK and U.S. Pinewood also recently announced it had closed a deal that will see 20th Century Fox book all films on its distribution slate into cinemas.
Asante was speaking at the Screen Film Summit, where she gave an impassioned plea for greater diversity and representation both in front of and behind the camera as well as the need to support first-time filmmakers to build a long-term career.
“No industry can remain sustainable without new and diverse life blood and without those who have the opportunity to hone and develop their talents and skills to their most full potential,” said Asante. “Nurturing and developing filmmaking talent, so that they go on to become financeable worldwide, is the only way to create a sustainable film industry in the long run here at home in the UK.”
