The Movie Academy has whittled its shortlist for the Visual Effects category to 10. It appears to follow the general trend of rewarding summer blockbusters, with the likes of Marvel tentpoles Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians Of The Galaxy, Fox’s Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and X-Men pic, Warner Bros’ The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies and Paramount’s Interstellar among those making the cut. The notable omissions might give a certain Higher Power some pause, though: the upcoming Exodus: Gods And Kings and Noah, two Biblical epics that were certainly effects-driven.
