Emmy-winning actress Loretta Devine (Grey’s Anatomy) has been cast opposite Jerrod Carmichael in Go Jerrod Go, NBC’s multi-camera pilot written by Carmichael and Nick Stoller that’s described as an irreverent comedy inspired by Carmichael’s stand-up and his relationships with his girlfriend and family. The project follows a young couple, Jerrod (Carmichael) and Maxine (Amber West), who decide to move in together, but when it comes time to tell Jerrod’s parents, he finds every reason in the world to hold off on breaking the news to them. Devine, repped by Innovative Artists and Essential Talent Management, will play Jerrod’s mother. Her other TV credits include Boston Public, Doc McStuffins and Everybody Hates Chris.
Hemky Madera (Weeds) is set for a role opposite Alice Braga in USA Network’s drama pilot Queen Of The South, an English-language adaptation of Telemundo’s blockbuster 2011 telenovela La Reina Del Sur. Based on the best-selling book by Arturo Perez-Reverte, Queen Of The South centers on Teresa Mendoza (Braga), who’s forced to go on the run when her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. She seeks refuge in America, where she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. In the process, she learns the tools of the trade and strategically positions herself to become the leader of the cartel. Madera, repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Clear Talent Group, will play violent cartel henchman Pote Galvez.
