Comedy Central vet Ian Friedman has been promoted to VP Original Programming and Development. He will continue to be based in the network’s Santa Monica office, reporting to EVP Jim Sharp.

“Ian is probably a smarter and more talented exec than we deserve, but he has a couple of character flaws that balance him out,” said Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production.

Friedman joined the all-comedy channel in 2008 as a Manager of Development and Acquisitions in the digital group. In 2011 he was promoted to Director of Development of Original Programming where he has played a key role in developing and overseeing the Funny Or Die produced hit series Drunk History, currently in pre-production on its third season, Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!, animated TripTank, and the Daniel Tosh produced animated series Brickleberry. Friedman also developed the upcoming animated series Moonbeam City, that is set to premiere this spring.
