EXCLUSIVE: Amber Heard is in talks to join Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl for the strong supporting role of Oola opposite Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) and Alicia Vikander (Testament Of Youth). The film sees director and producer Hooper re-teaming with Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. The trio previously worked together with much success on Les Miserables.
Inspired by the novel written by David Ebershoff, Danish Girl is a love story about Danish painters Einar Wegener and his wife Gerda. In 1930, Wegener was one of the first men ever to undergo operations to become a woman. Lucinda Coxon adapted the screenplay. Anne Harrison and Gail Mutrux developed the film and will produce through their Harrison Productions and Pretty Pictures banners.
Heard, who is coming off a starring role in the forthcoming Channing Tatum sequel Magic Mike XXL, is repped by WME and Karl Austen at Jackoway Tyerman.
Working Title, enjoying awards season momentum with James Marsh’s The Theory Of Everything, has a particularly strong slate of films in the pipelines. The august company recently commenced principal photography on the Coen brothers’ all-star cast Hail, Caesar starring George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Jonah Hill, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Channing Tatum, Scarlett Johannson and Alden Ehrenreich.
Also coming soon are Stephen Frears’ Lance Armstrong biopic Icon; Tom Hardy doing a double turn as iconic British twin gangsters the Krays in Brian Helgeland’s Legend; and 3D action adventure Everest starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley and Robin Wright.
