Comedy veterans Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (Grounded For Life) will serve as executive producers/showrunners of the upcoming fourth season of TV Land’s sitcom The Soul Man starring Cedric The Entertainer and Niecy Nash. For the past two seasons, the series was run by Ric Swartzlander.
In casting news, former View co-host Sherri Shepherd, who guest starred in an episode of Season 1, will return for a heavily recurring role, appearing in 10 of the season’s 12 episodes. She will reprise her role as Nikki, Boyce Ballentine’s (Cedric) unpredictable cousin. Nikki, who was last seen hawking sex toys to the elder ladies of Boyce and Lolli’s (Nash) church, always has some new business that’s causing trouble and wreaking havoc in the Ballentines’ lives.
The Soul Man follows R&B superstar-turned minister Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine after he relocated from Las Vegas to St. Louis with his wife Lolli.
Cedric and Shepherd both will next be seen co-starring with Chris Rock in the upcoming Paramount comedy Top Five. Nash also stars on the HBO comedy series Getting On and will be seen in Paramount Pictures’ Selma.
Martin and Schiff will executive the Hot In Cleveland spinoff with creators Cedric and Suzanne Martin, along with Eric C. Rhone and Sean Hayes & Todd Milliner of Hazy Mills Productions.
