When Franny’s brother is hit by a car and slips into a coma, she starts recording sounds he might recognize. She tracks down his favorite musician, and unforeseen sparks fly. Anne Hathaway steps out of the studio spotlight to star in Song One, from writer-director Kate Barker-Froyland and producer Jonathan Demme. Johnny Flynn is the singer, and Mary Steenburgen plays the worried mom. The pic, which premiered at Sundance and was picked up at Cannes by Cinedigm and Film Arcade, features original songs by Jenny Lewis & Johnathan Rice. It opens day-and-date in theaters and VOD on January 23.
