The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, today announced Shonda Rhimes will be given the group’s Ally For Equality Award at its Los Angeles gala dinner on Saturday, March 14. Rhimes, creator and/or exec producer of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder, previously was named as one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world.

“Shonda Rhimes is not only politically outspoken on issues of equality, but has also created some of the most groundbreaking portrayals of LGBT people ever seen on television, helping to change hearts and minds around the world,” HRC President Chad Griffin said in today’s news.
