Oliver Stone has directed movies about three American presidents with JFK, Nixon and W. Would he give the same treatment to Russian President Vladimir Putin? While a narrative feature is not in the cards, “I would do an interview with (Putin) to show a point of view that Americans don’t want to hear,” Stone said in an interview with Russia’s RIA-Novosti news agency. “I would like to do a documentary about him.”

Stone made the comments while in Moscow, putting finishing touches on the script for his upcoming movie about Edward Snowden. He said he’d met with Snowden who sought asylum in Russia after leaking confidential NSA documents. Stone hopes to begin filming early next year. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in the movie, which was just acquired by Open Road.

Putin is aware of Stone’s intentions. “We are aware of Stone’s desire to do a film,” Putin’s press secretary told Russian media, noting that the Russian president and Stone met on Tuesday at a gala commemorating author, director and actor Vassiliy Shukshin.

Particularly does not give a fig about historical accuracy either. Instead we get a whole new gospel...

Putin would fit with Stone’s previous documentary subjects. The filmmaker has done documentaries on Cuba’s Fidel Castro and Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez.
