It seems like old news by now, but neither the NFL not NBC had actually confirmed ubiquitous reports that Katy Perry is set to perform at the upcoming XLIX Super Bowl halftime show on Feb 1. They did it tonight in a synchronized announcement that featured a video featuring Perry.
There was no information on the financials of the deal. This year’s halftime show gig came under scrutiny following a WSJ report that the NFL had identified a couple of finalists, including Perry, who had been approached about paying for the opportunity to perform in front of a Super Bowl-size TV audience. In an interview with ESPN in October, Perry indirectly addressed the controversy, saying, “I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl.”
