Comedian Kathy Griffin is in talks with E! to succeed the late Joan Rivers as co-host of Fashion Police. Griffin emerged as a leading candidate for the job immediately following the sudden death of Rivers on September 4. With the blessing of Rivers’ daughter, Fashion Police executive producer Melissa Rivers, E! announced in September that Fashion Police will continue, returning with originals in January. Attention focused on Griffin, who was friends with Rivers and has a similar comedic sensibility. Earlier this week Griffin confirmed that “they did offer (Fashion Police) to me,” adding that “I don’t know if the situation is correct at this time for me or right for me at this time.”

E! and parent NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Group had no comment but an insider confirmed that Griffin is currently in talks for the job, adding, ”we would love for Kathy to join Fashion Police. She has had a long, close and collaborative relationship with Frances Berwick dating back years on Bravo.” Griffin has been a staple on Bravo for years, winning two best reality program Emmys for the long-running My Life On The D-List. She shared them with long-time Bravo topper Berwick, who shepherded the series and served as an executive producer. Berwick recently added E! to her purview, with locking in a replacement for Rivers on Fashion Police as one of her first priorities there. Despite reports, Tyra Banks, who is well regarded at E!, is not in the running for Fashion Police, sources say.

Fashion Police, launched in 2010, is co-hosted by Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and George Kotsiopoulos.
