E!: Have you talked to Mark lately?
June: No. That will all come out, I don’t want to say anything about anything.
E!: Do you want to say anything to the people who say you’re crazy and how can you let your child around that man?
June: No — but that will all come out.
Well, Mama June is beginning her coming out party today with the first of her “exclusive” interviews. In her first “exclusive”, with Entertainment Tonight, she will reveal that a convicted sex offender is father of two of her daughters, 17-year-old Jessica Shannon and 14-year-old Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, and that convicted sex offender is not Mark McDaniel — it’s a Michael Anthony Ford. Ford like Mama June, has been the star of a reality series; Ford headlined a 2005 episode of NBC’s To Catch A Predator, which, in turn, led to a gig in prison for sexual exploitation, according to press reports.
This no doubt came as a surprise to Pumpkin, who thought Mama’s other convicted sex offender boyfriend, McDaniel was her dad. Mama June lost her TLC show after reports surfaced she was seeing McDaniel, who is now out of the slammer, and that he’d allegedly assaulted her oldest daughter, Anna, when she was just 8 years old, while Pumpkin was in the room. In today’s interview, June tells ET she’s only seen McDaniel twice since he was released from prison in March — the first time was a coincidence and the second a meeting arranged with him and Pumpkin, so he could explain personally that he is not her father.
Which brings us to Mama June’s second “exclusive” interview of her Stout Denial Tour — with Dr. Phil, scheduled for Monday, November 17, in which we’re promised she will insist many of the recent photos of her with McDaniel were photo-shopped.
But, getting back to today’s “exclusive”: Mama June says she has not read the court documents about McDaniel, and says, in re her now 20-year-old alleged McDaniel abuse victim daughter: “I’ve told Anna not to bring up the past again..it would be hard for me.” Even ET knew that one screamed for a follow-up question.
As to why she is announcing today that two of her daughters are the children of a different sexual offender, Mama June will explain, “Why the hell would I open up that can of worms until today? I lied to my family and told them it was somebody else.”
Late last month, TLC pulled the plug on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo in the wake of the new reports about Mama June and McDaniel, announcing, “Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority.” The network had shot the show’s next season, which it will not air, but reportedly will pay the children their full salaries, though not Mama’s.
