Peter Jackson wraps his epic Hobbit trilogy this December with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, which today unveiled the somber main trailer that Deadline premiered last Saturday at our awards season kick-off event The Contenders. Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage), and the Dwarves of Erebor bring their adventure to a close as they face the consequences of unleashing the dragon Smaug upon Lake-town.

The sprawling cast includes Ian McKellen, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Benedict Cumberbatch, Billy Connolly, James Nesbitt, Ken Stott, Aidan Turner, Dean O’Gorman, Graham McTavish, Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom, Mikael Persbrandt, Sylvester McCoy, Peter Hambleton, John Callen, Mark Hadlow, Jed Brophy, William Kircher, Stephen Hunter, Adam Brown, John Bell, Manu Bennett and John Tui. Jackson’s prequel to his Lord of the Rings films, adapted from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, hits theaters in High Frame Rate 3D, 3D, IMAX, and regular ol’ 2D on December 17 via New Line and MGM.
