While Gracepoint, the U.S. version of Broadchurch, is in the home stretch of its 10 episodes on Fox, the UK’s ITV has just teased the return of the original series with Season 2 to air in January. The first season of the Kudos-produced, BAFTA-winning drama starred David Tennant and Olivia Colman as detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller investigating the murder of young Danny Latimer in the eponymous Dorset town. In the Fox version, Tennant reprises his role, only with an American instead of a Scots accent and with his name changed to Emmett Carver. A lot of the other elements remain the same despite being transplanted to the bucolic California whale-watching community of Gracepoint. That series is nearing its climax in the U.S. — which has been promised to be different from that of the first season of Broadchurch.

In the meantime, Broadchurch‘s 2nd season started shooting in the UK in May with Tennant, Colman, Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan and Arthur Darvill all returning, and new castmembers Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Eve Myles and James D’Arcy aboard. One of the big questions surrounding the series has been how creator/writer Chris Chibnall and crew would advance the story in the 2nd season. Details are still being kept close to the vest, but the videos below are the final teasers of a three-week campaign in the UK (#TheEndIsWhereItBegins) that’s been dropping clues. What we do know now is that Broadchurch will pick up in January where the story left off in 2013. UK networks don’t usually announce final schedules until a few weeks out, so a firm date has yet to be set. The last season of Broadchurch riveted Britons on Monday nights beginning in March 2013. BBC America then aired it starting in August that year. BBCA is also aboard the second season. Check out Miller and Hardy in their respective teasers below:
