EXCLUSIVE: Topher Grace is set to star with Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett in Truth, which will tell the story behind the story of CBS’ 60 Minutes II report that George W. Bush had gotten preferential treatment to keep him out of the Vietnam War.

Grace will play Mike Smith to Redford’s Dan Rather and Blanchett’s Mary Mapes (the producer of the news report); Smith is a researcher who helped figure out the truth behind the story — one that left Rather’s reputation tattered and led to the dismissal of Mapes. The film is based on her 2005 memoir Truth And Duty: The Press, The President And The Priviliege Of Power. It is being directed by first-time helmer James Vanderbilt. RatPac Entertainment and Echo Lake Entertainment will finance the movie, and Brett Ratner will produce and James Packer will executive produce.

Truth will be produced by Mythology Entertainment, the production partnership between Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer and Laeta Kalogridis. Fischer, William Sherak, Vanderbilt and Mikkel Bondesen are producing. They are hoping to get befoer the cameras in the next couple of months.

Grace will next be seen next in Paramount Pictures’ big-budget holiday tentpole Interstellar opposite Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey. Also upcoming is the action comedy American Ultra opposite Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg. Lastly, he will star in Home from producer Jason Blum.
