Stephen Hawking is doing his part to get the word out into the universe about The Theory Of Everything, the Hawking biopic starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones that is gearing up for a November 7 release and an awards-season run. Hawking just joined Facebook with a kickoff note to his potential friends — and maybe even potential moviegoers:
“I have always wondered what makes the universe exist. Time and space may forever be a mystery, but that has not stopped my pursuit. Our connections to one another have grown infinitely and now that I have the chance, I’m eager to share this journey with you. Be curious, I know I will forever be. Welcome, and thank you for visiting my Facebook Page. -SH”
Hawking is a fan of Thoery Of Everything, with the film’s screenwriter Anthony McCarten relating to Deadline the story of when Hawking first saw the film, and how his reaction for the scribe was the topper to a 10-year journey to make the film. “There have already been a number of contenders for the big moment, but Stephen having a tear wiped from his cheek by his nurse after the lights came up during a screening for him, that is hard to beat,” McCarten said.
So is joining up on social media the new digital equivalent of hitting the late-night circuit to promote a project? Hawking taking the plunge comes one day after Jerry Seinfeld joined Facebook and Instagram ahead of the November 6 launch of his Crackle series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
