NBC purchased The Family Business from writer Matt Wheeler, The Dan Jinks Company, and CBS Television Studios.  The story was pitched as the birth of a young would-be Godfather,  a la Michael Corleone.  Dan Jinks, who will executive produce, hatched this idea after hearing of a friend who learned in his late 20’s that his father was part of the New York City mob world.  That would be the jumping off point for the series. Wheeler will serve as co-EP.  The Dan Jinks Company has a production deal with CBS Television Studios.  Dan Jinks’ producing credits include the films American Beauty, Milk, Big Fish and the TV series Pushing Daisies and Emily Owens MD.

It’s Wheeler’s second consecutive TV sale, coming off last season’s high concept drama Salvation, bought by CBS and exec produced by Hawaii Five-0’s Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Peter Lenkov. On the big screen, Wheeler recently adapted Christopher Golden’s futuristic military action novel Tin Men for Chernin Entertainment and Warner Brothers. Wheeler is repped by Verve, Management 360 and Barry Tyerman; Dan Jinks is repped by WME.
